My passion and life’s work is to facilitate transformation-in myself, others and our communities. I work with people who are longing to step fully into their lives and bodies and who are ready for the kind of work that brings lasting change-a paradigm shift. I aim to create and sustain long-term relationships with clients and community members; to walk through the ins and outs, the ups and downs of the journey together. Imagine having a guide, a cheerleader, a support in times of doubt and distress-we cannot do this alone!
I was drawn to healing and the journey of embodiment as you may have been: because of chronic pain, trauma, emotional distress and behavioral patterns that were no longer supportive or tolerable. I am a Romanian immigrant who came to the US at the age of 4-I am of Romanian and Greek descent. I am a father to a young daughter and take seriously the ways that I show her what healthy maleness can look like, as I attempt to teach her about the world in a way that will empower her to be her full self as a female-presenting human.
I was a philosophy major with a religion minor in college, and have always been curious about science, spirituality and the body. As time passed I began to feel more and more uneasy, swayed this way and that by strong emotions, more and more disturbed about power imbalances that I saw everywhere – so I began to seek help. I dove into alternative healing, meditation and the yogic tradition, as well as years of body-based therapies and group work of various kinds. This gradually stabilized my connection to my body and helped me to begin to self-regulate, to feel more emotionally balanced and intuitive. Over the past few years I’ve become a student of Interpersonal Neurobiology, depth empathy and Polyvagal Theory through the work of Dr. Dan Siegel, Sarah Peyton, Stephen Porges and others. I am working with Holistic Resistance to understand systemic oppression, dismantle racism and hetero-centrism in myself, discovering ways to bridge differences and make my work accessible and relevant to as many folks as I can. The grounding of neuroscience, combined with good mentorship and a lot of meditation practice has given me enormous inspiration and a large toolkit to work with myself and others, as well as a conceptual framework that explains our lives while maintaining their sacredness.
People Whose Help Has Been Life-Changing
I want to credit a number of people with teaching and encouraging me, and showing me the way back to somatic sovereignty:
My grandmother Maria Lucia, whose deep spirituality and commitment to virtue left a North Star for me to look towards. Valorie Lordi, my first healer and shamanic mentor who tried to move away from cultural appropriation and birth a healing modality that honored the modern American loss of indigeneity for white-presenting people; Susan Jion Postal (now deceased), my first Zen teacher who lit a path of humanness and showed me how to live and die with dignity; Roosevelt Gainey, Qi Gong master who taught me about the Primordial Mind; Dharma Mittra, my 500-hour Yoga Certifier who encouraged ceaseless self-inquiry and discipline, Reggie Ray, my teacher and mentor in meditation and Tibetan Buddhism, Franklyn Sills, my Craniosacral trainer, Rachel Lewett, who has mentored me and continues to model a new way of being in the world, and Holistic Resistance, for their mentorship and inspiration in reaching across racial and gender divides. The others are too many to name-I honor them all.
I continue to learn about liberation strategies that reach towards all people, the environment and the future. I participate in group work and am committed to being a part of the awakening that’s taking place in the world right in this moment. Integrating everything I’ve learned improves my work with clients and helps to deepen the healing power of BCST. It helps me to be a loving father to my daughter and a more loving and trustworthy human.
